The Solomon Islands National Broadband Infrastructure Project (SINBIP) has successfully commissioned two new telecommunications sites in Western Province and Guadalcanal Province, further expanding network connectivity across the country.

The newly activated sites are M42 (Kuzi) in Western Province and Site 14 (Bebe) in Guadalcanal Province. With the commissioning of these two facilities, the total number of operational SINBIP sites nationwide has now reached 133.

According to SINBIP officials, the M42 (Kuzi) site is expected to strengthen telecommunications coverage in Western Province, improving communication access for nearby communities and along surrounding travelling routes.

Meanwhile, the activation of Site 14 (Bebe) in Guadalcanal Province will enhance local network coverage and provide more reliable communication services for residents in surrounding areas.

Despite challenges during construction and transportation of equipment — including difficult site access and complex terrain conditions — the SINBIP team continued to progress construction and commissioning works through close coordination among stakeholders.

Local communities also played an important role in supporting the construction and implementation process, contributing to the successful completion and activation of both sites.

SINBIP is supported by the Ministry of Communication and Aviation, operated by Solomon Islands Tower Company Limited, and implemented by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. together with Huawei.

The project aims to expand telecommunications coverage nationwide and support digital transformation throughout the Solomon Islands.

SINBIP officials say the team will continue working closely with all stakeholders to advance the commissioning of remaining sites and further improve telecommunications connectivity across the country.
